Format Of This Test :
In this test a few numbers are given according to a definite scheme and candidates are asked to work out the next nest number by discovering the pattern of the scheme. It is difficult to imagine all types of patterns but most of them are given below:
Types Of Number Series :
1: Addition or Subtraction :
Some thing may be added to the previous number to get the next number. Or some thing may be subtracted from the number to get the next one.
Series Of Addition:
Complete The Series: 1,3,9,16,25, ?
In this first case number 3 is added then 5, then 7, and so on. The number to be added goes on increasing by 2. Hence the missing number is 36.
Series Of Subtraction (Descending Series) :
38,34,30,26,22, ?
35,30,24,17, ?
In the 1st 4 is deducted from each number to get the second. So the missing number is 18.
In the 2nd the deductions are in the ascending order 5,6,7 so missing number is 9.
2: Multiple :
The 2nd number may be the multiple of the 1st number. It may b square cube or multiplied by a number.Multiple Series:
Complete The Series : 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, ?
Above every number is multiplied by 2 to get the number The missing number is 64.
3: Division :
It may be divided by a number to get the nest one.
Division Series :
Complete The Series : 128, 64, 32, 16, ?
In the series each number is divided by 2 to get the next number So the nest number is 8.
4: Similarity :
There may be similarity in the numbers that is the middle digit or the last may be even or odd etc.
Odd Or Even Number :
Complete The Series : 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, ?
In the 1st case 2 is added in each and these are the 1st 5 odd number as well, so the missing number is 11.
In the 2nd case 2 is added in each number to get next one and these are 1st 5 even number as well. so missing number is 12.
In the 2nd series 4 is added and in the nest 3 is subtracted. Then again 4 is added and 3 is subtracted. So the missing number is 11.
ii)Apply the rule of that type of series for completing the series.
In the 2nd case 2 is added in each number to get next one and these are 1st 5 even number as well. so missing number is 12.
5: Adding Digits :
The 2 digits of a number.. for example 74 will come to 7+4+11.6: Series Of Square (A)
Complete The Series : 25, 36, 49, ?
In this series the 1st number of the square of 5, The 2nd 1 is the square of 6 and 3rd is the square of 7, so the missing number should be the square of 8 that is answer should be 64.Series Of Square (B) :
Complete The Series : 4, 16, 5, 25, 6, ?
In this series 2nd number is the square of the 1st, 4th is the square of 3rd and so on, So te missing number should be 36.Series Of Square (C) :
Complete The Series : 2, 4, 16, 256, ?
2nd number is the square of 1st and the 3rd is the square of 2nd and so on, Hence the missing number is the 65536.7: Square- root Series :
Complete the Series : 64, 8, 49, 7, 36, 6, 25, ?
The 2nd number is the square root of the 1st, 4th is the square root of 3rd, and so on, so the missing number is 5.8: Mixed Series :
This is the most difficult series. In this division and subtraction, and addition and multiplication and any other coordination may be adopted.Complete The Series :3, 6, 10, 4, 8, 12, 5, ?8, 12, 9, 13, 10, 14, ?
In the 1st the number is multiplied by 2 to get the second number and 4 is added to get the 3rd number the 4th number is belongs to the 2nd set of three. It is also multiplied by 2 to get 5th number and to the 5th is added 4 to get the 6th number. So the missing number is 10 (5*2).In the 2nd series 4 is added and in the nest 3 is subtracted. Then again 4 is added and 3 is subtracted. So the missing number is 11.
How To Tackle This Question :
i) Determine the types of the given series.ii)Apply the rule of that type of series for completing the series.
